Fractional and interim CTO

You are raising, scaling, or losing your CTO, and every technical decision now carries investor weight. We give you executive technology judgement at 1 to 3 days a week: embedded, accountable, and hands-on when it moves the work forward.

What fractional means here

The market uses these words loosely, so we won’t. An advisor gives you an hour of opinion a month and executes nothing. An interim works full time for a fixed term and carries the function. A fractional CTO sits between the two: part-time by design, but owning real deliverables. We work all three modes and will tell you plainly which one your situation needs. Often the honest answer is smaller than the one being sold to you.

What we own

  • Technology strategy and the build-versus-buy calls behind it
  • Architecture decisions and their documentation
  • Hiring: process design, interviews, and closing your founding engineers
  • Vendor selection and management
  • Board and investor engagement, including due diligence preparation
  • Engineering culture: code review, delivery practice, and the 1-1 discipline
  • Hands-on engineering when it unblocks the team

Who it’s for

Raising or scaling

You are raising or scaling and need a credible technical voice in the room

A CTO on the way out

Your CTO is leaving and you need continuity while you search

A portfolio to lead

You run a venture studio and want shared technology leadership across the portfolio

A decision before the spend

You need to qualify technical feasibility before committing capital

How the engagement runs

We start with a discovery that turns “we need technical leadership” into outcomes with numbers and dates attached, written down and owned by you. From there the work runs in loops, each one checked against those outcomes, and the plan changes as you learn. Updates are written by default, so there is a record you can take to your board, and we agree together how often we meet. Part-time executive arrangements fail on communication, trust, or vague goals. We deal with all three in the first weeks, and keep asking whether the work is worth what it costs.

What comes next

Engagements grow into one another. Most clients arrive at one step and stay for the next.

Engagement shape

1 to 3 days per week, 3 to 12+ months. Engagements often begin as a prototype or discovery project and grow from the evidence.
