Our purpose is to empower visionary companies and their founders to accelerate the positive impact they want to make on society.

Why Kodehort?

Kodehort is a group of experienced freelance technologists, architects, and engineers that conduct project or programme discovery and rapid prototyping.

Our discovery process consists of technology and strategy workshops, seeking to elicit the minimum viable product to deliver the maximum business impact. The process is about finding the smallest and quickest project that can have a measurable impact on your company’s goals.

We balance user-centered feature requirements with risk assessment, complexity analysis and cost estimates to identify real options. The best projects for this process are shaped around improvements to existing systems. Ideally suited to organisations that are seeking continuous improvement around existing business needs, but feel constrained by technology or services.

For teams that want to do something other than commission an extensive IT project before first exploring the options to release the real power of technology by validating a legacy of assumptions, constraints, and opportunities.

Alistair's Story

After 15 years working in agencies and acquiring advanced technical expertise, I became uncomfortable with the way agencies work. It seemed to be all about pitching, sales leads, and commission, and I felt like clients were being exploited due to the gap in their technical knowledge. I knew there was a better way to help ambitious leaders use technology to reach their goals

Looking for the right career

That is until I read a book which focused on helping businesses use introspection to remove impediments. I realised that’s what I am good at, and what I love: getting to know a business, identifying the bottlenecks, and using technology to remove them. I set off on this new path and became a Technology Partner for a venture builder. I used my time there to refine my thinking and find the best ways to support founders keen to make a positive impact on the world. I formed 14 new businesses, many of which went on to attract series A and B funding or were acquired by larger companies.

Finding a fairer business model

After four years, I was ready to go it alone and founded Kodehort, which is based on a completely different operating model. I start by defining the desired outcomes, embed myself within the client’s team to quickly prototype solutions, then lead the technology implementation to scale, all without exploiting anyone or charging huge agency fees. I have a large network of consultants with a wide range of expertise who can support clients on a variety of mandates. It is also important for me to work on projects that positively impact every business stakeholder, including the community, the employees, the customers, and the planet, not just shareholders.

Helping to make a positive impact

Three years later after launching my company, I have been busy helping great founders make a difference. My enthusiasm for coding hasn’t wavered. In the evening when the children are in bed, I write code and keep tinkering and learning about the newest technology. My latest area of research is Serverless architecture and tooling, the perfect technology for early-stage start-ups.

I’m driven by my values

Authenticity
Everything I do comes from, either experience or a genuine belief that that’s the right thing to, to say or do
Integrity
it’s what guides me to choose the right path. Things have to be done the right way and the right way by people.
Curiosity
It’s what I do. I look at things closely, I tinker. I take things apart then put them back together again. I like to understand why things work and why they don’t.
Resourcefulness
I relish challenges and when there is a roadblock, I can find myself around it. Unfazed I use my creativity and ingenuity to change the shape of the problem and seek out the solution.
